Join us for a unique opportunity to explore Scotland’s rich Late Prehistoric and Roman past through two exciting excavation projects in 2027.
Our relaxed and welcoming training digs are open to students and volunteers and offer hands-on experience uncovering archaeological remains that have never been examined before.
We’ll be returning to Gallow Hill between Doune and Dunblane and digging two sites: a Neolithic Cairn (13th to 23rd July), and a small elite fort on the Roman Frontier (3rd to 13th August). Both projects form part of a long-term research programme into settlement patterns in the Forth Valley. No previous experience is required, and professional archaeologists will be on-site to guide you every step of the way.
I am so happy with my experience at the King’s Park excavation 2025. Murray and Dominic were fantastic teachers and created such a warm, welcoming environment to learn about archaeology and local history. Even with Scotland’s unpredictable weather (ha!), we always had a great time and ended each day having learned something new. It truly was one of the best experiences of my life!
Going on an archaeological dig is something I have always wanted to do, but it has taken until after my retirement to actually achieve it ... and it didn't disappoint! The evocative setting of King's Park together with a friendly group of fellow volunteers of all ages and nationalities and Murray, Jill and Dom's infectious enthusiasm and historical knowledge all combined together to make it a very memorable experience. Thanks to you all!
